Parish Details for Ruan Major

Ruan Major

Ruan Major is situated in the Deanery and Hundred of Kerrier. It is bordered by Cury, Mawgan, St Martins and St Keverne to the north, St Keverne and a detached part of Grade parish to the east, Ruan Minor to the south and Mullion and Cury to the west. There was a detached portion of the parish (called Bednas and measuring only two furlongs in length by one and a half furlongs in breadth) which was bordered by Landewednack to the east and south and Mullion to the west and north. In 1934, because of falling population, this parish was united with Ruan Minor and Grade to form a single parish of Grade-Ruan. The main village of Grade-Ruan is Cadgwith although this was not really ever in Ruan Major. Other villages in this former parish are Treal and Ruan Vean.
